Course content

THEORY:

1. The anatomy of the TMJ – how it all fits and works, what we have to deal with, and what it will actually look like on the inside. The biomechanics and pathogenesis of the occurrence of TMJ.

What is TMJ in general. Varieties of pathologic conditions and nosologic forms. (anatomage, how everything moves, types of movements, dislocations, ligaments, role of lateral wing muscle, CA concept and necessity, how it is and is not related to teeth and dentition)

2. Diagnosis in clinical appointment, right here and now, how to differentiate a healthy patient from compensated and decompensated patient. (mechanism of pathologic movements, deviations and deflexions, S-trajectories, Pankey-Dowson load test)

3. Articulation systems, what they are and why. Why you need a fully customizable articulator and facial arch. How to work with it properly, complete protocol for plastering and transferring data. (facial arch application, mathematical validity and necessity, reference planes and the concept of angles relative to reference planes, how to measure and define this, what it affects, what skeletal classes have what values and how it relates to the teeth, plastering the upper and lower jaws, plastering flyhacks)

4. Muscular system in our area of expertise. (which muscles to palpate, how to interpret palpatory data, characteristic correlations of muscle condition with the clinical picture in the patient’s oral cavity, biomechanics of muscle groups).

PRACTICE:

1. Application of the facial arch
2. Plastering in Artex, determination of individual parameters
3. Palpation of muscles

THEORY:

4. separately about articular forms of pathologies. (limitation of mouth opening in dislocations as it occurs most often, compression type of mandibular placement, arthroses)
5. Central ratio (how to work with it and how to determine it, jigs and deprogrammers, laboratory and clinical, multileaf calibrator, gnathometer and centrofix, gothic arrow)

PRACTICE:

1. Variator
2. Plastering with jig and deprogrammer
3. tENS what it is and why. (types, modes, neuromuscular concept)

THEORY:

4. CT and MRI diagnosis. (what we see there and there, how it should and should not look, what calculations we can make, further tactics).
5. Therapeutic position. (what it is and why, impossibility of determining CS, gnathology of the pathological condition, how to calculate and for whom, the concept of distraction and anterization, bite height, position for prosthetics and orthodontic treatment and for splinting, work in the variator).
6. Splint therapy and everything related to it (which splints to make in which cases, in what way, what parameters to put there).
7. Drug therapy ( what and to whom to prescribe, dosages and tactics)
8. Prosthetics and orthodontic treatment in the therapeutic position – clinical examples
